Ven Geshe Tashi Tsering is a highly respected Tibetan teacher, in the Gelug tradition founded by Lama Tsong Khapa. He has lived and taught in the West for many years. He has hundreds of students around Australia and New Zealand as well as in India and Tibet, who have been inspired by his personal qualities and great learning. His experience with Western students and living in the West has given him great insight into Western thinking and circumstances.
He has devoted his life to studying and practicing Buddhism and to conveying the essence of the Buddha's teachings in cogent, powerful ways. He draws from an unbroken lineage of authentic teachings and presents them in a way that is relevant and highly meaningful to modern life. (Read Geshe-la's biography here.) Geshe-la has been the resident teacher at Chenrezig Institute in Queensland since 1990. He heads up an extensive programme of Buddhist teachings offered at the centre, which caters to a wide range of interests and experience. He has taught a remarkable course of full-time study (the Buddhist Studies Programme or BSP) since 1998. This offers a unique opportunity in the West for high-level study of classic topics of Tibetan Buddhism. A diverse and committed student body has been created and it has attracted nuns and monks from around the world. Geshe-la also teaches regularly at Langri Tangpa Centre in Brisbane. Each year he also visits the Hospice of Mother Tara Centre and Hayagriva Centre in Western Australia and Chandrakirti Centre in New Zealand. You can find details of Geshe-la's schedule here.
